Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Frozen Biscuits

    • Frozen Pillsbury Grands Biscuits. Known for their fluffy texture and buttery flavor, these premade biscuits save you time and effort, making this recipe incredibly straightforward.
    • Nonstick Cooking Spray. This helps prevent the biscuits from sticking to the air fryer basket, ensuring they come out intact and beautifully browned.
    • Melted Butter (Optional). Brushing the tops of the biscuits with melted butter after cooking adds a rich, savory flavor that elevates the simple biscuit into a treat.

How to Make Air Fryer Buttermilk Biscuits from Frozen

    1. Begin by preheating your air fryer to 330 degrees F for about 5 minutes. This step is essential for rising and cooking the biscuits evenly. Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray to ensure that the biscuits do not stick and tear when you remove them.
    2. Place the premade biscuit dough circles in a single layer in the air fryer basket. It’s important not to overcrowd the basket to allow hot air to circulate freely around each biscuit, ensuring even cooking and the outside of the biscuits have a uniformly golden brown color.

    1. Air fry the biscuits for 8 minutes, then flip them over carefully with a pair of tongs or a spatula, and continue to air fry for an additional 4-6 minutes. The flipping is key to getting both sides perfectly crisp and browned.
    2. Once the biscuits are golden brown and have puffed up, remove them from the air fryer. If desired, you can brush the tops with melted butter for a richer flavor and a more appealing glossy finish. This step is optional but highly recommended for that extra touch of indulgence.
    3. Serve the biscuits hot for the best texture and flavor. They can be enjoyed plain, which highlights their buttery taste and fluffy texture, or you can pair them with your favorite spreads, such as jam, honey, or gravy. Biscuits are versatile in their serving options, making them a great addition to any meal.

    Substitutions & Variations

    Biscuit Substitutions:

    • While Pillsbury Brand Grands are popular, feel free to experiment with other frozen biscuit brands and types to see which you prefer.
    • If you prefer to make your biscuits from scratch or have dietary restrictions, you can substitute the Pillsbury biscuits with homemade buttermilk biscuits. Just ensure it's rolled and cut before freezing for easier handling.
    • For a healthier option, use whole wheat biscuit dough. This substitution adds fiber and a nuttier flavor to your biscuits.
    • There are many good quality gluten-free frozen biscuits available that can be used in this recipe for those who avoid gluten.
    • Use dairy-free or vegan frozen biscuits to cater to dietary restrictions. You can also brush them with vegan butter or a light vegetable oil instead of regular butter.

    Flavor Variations:

    • Herb-Infused Biscuits: Before cooking, sprinkle the biscuits with dried herbs such as rosemary, thyme, or parsley for added flavor.
    • Cheese Biscuits: Add grated cheese like cheddar or Parmesan to the top of the biscuits before the final few minutes of cooking for a cheesy, savory twist.
    • Sweet Biscuits: For a sweet version, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top of the biscuits before air frying. Serve with a drizzle of honey or syrup for added sweetness.

    Pro Tips

    • Always preheat your air fryer if the manufacturer recommends it. This mimics the immediate high heat of an oven, which is essential for achieving the best rise and texture in biscuits.
    • Keep your air fryer clean. Residual crumbs and oil from previous cooking can smoke or burn, which can affect the flavor of your biscuits.
    • Not all frozen biscuits are created equal. Experiment with different brands and types of frozen biscuits to find the ones that best meet your preferences in terms of flavor and texture.
    • You can air fry any amount of biscuits at a time, from 1 biscuit to an entire can of biscuits, depending on the size of your air fryer.
    • Always arrange the biscuits in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and biscuits that are not properly risen.
    • Flipping the biscuits halfway through the cooking process is crucial for even browning and to ensure that they cook thoroughly on both sides.
    • Adding different toppings like melted butter, herbs, or cheese halfway through cooking can greatly enhance the flavor of your biscuits.
    • Different brands of air fryers can cook quicker or slower so, depending on your air fryer model, you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly. Start checking the biscuits a couple of minutes before the suggested cooking time ends to prevent overcooking.

If you are cooking multiple batches the air fryer can become too hot inside. This will cook the outsides of the biscuits quicker and leaving the inside under cooked. Also, different brands of frozen biscuits could be different thicknesses which will also change the timing and you will need to adjust. Hope this helps!

Hi Kristen, it's possible you are over crowding the Air Fryer and there is not enough air flow around the biscuits. Each brand of Air Fryer works a little bit differently so you might need to adjust the time accordingly. It's also possible that different brands of frozen biscuits are larger and therefore will take more time to Air Fry too. Keep the variables in mind! Hope these ideas help
