Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Crinkle Fries

    • Crinkle Cut Fries. The star of the show! Frozen crinkle fries are perfect for this recipe and cook evenly in the air fryer. Ore-Ida or Birds Eye are great options, but any brand works.
    • Cooking Spray. A little bit goes a long way to keep your fries from sticking and helps them crisp up beautifully. You can use vegetable oil spray or olive oil spray, depending on your preference.
    • Salt. The classic topping! Sprinkle generously after cooking for that restaurant-quality taste.

How to Make Air Fryer Crinkle-Cut Fries

    1. Start by preheating the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
    2. Give the air fryer basket a light spritz of cooking spray. This step ensures the fries don’t stick and helps them crisp up perfectly. and then place frozen crinkle cut fries and place them in the basket in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd them – giving the fries a little bit of space is key for even cooking. If you’re making fries for a crowd, it’s better to cook them in batches for the best results.

    1. Air fry the crinkle fries at 400°F for 14-16 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through cooking to make sure every fry gets its golden brown moment. If you like your fries extra crispy, let them cook for an extra 2-3 minutes – but keep an eye on them!
    2. Once the fries are crispy and perfectly golden, remove them from the air fryer basket and sprinkle them with salt while they’re still hot. Serve them immediately with your favorite dipping sauces – whether it’s classic ketchup, creamy mayo, or tangy BBQ sauce, these fries are ready to wow.

Best Temperature for Crinkle Cut Fries in Air Fryer

400F degrees is the ideal for Crinkle Cut Fries to make the best and most crispy fries in the Air Fryer. With soft centers and crispy outsides each fry is perfectly cooked.

How Long to Cook Crinkle Cut Fries (By Thickness)

Not all crinkle cut fries are created equal. Some brands may cut their fries thicker than others. The cooking time of 14-16 minutes is an average of time. As always I recommend checking the fries for doneness before the time expires. You can always add extra time.

Why Your Fries Aren’t Crispy (Fixes)

A big reason why the fries aren't crispy is because the basket has more than a single layer of fries. When the air fryer can't circulate air effectively, the food inside won't be cooked well. Follow my tips!

    • Use a single layer of fries
    • Shake basket half way through. OR shake at the 5 min & 10 min mark for extra crispy
    • Fries are too thick and need extra time

    Dipping Sauce Ideas

There are an endless variety of dipping sauces, here are just a few favorites!

    • Cowboy Sauce
    • Honey Mustard Sauce
    • Fry Sauce
    • BBQ Sauce
    • Blooming Onion Sauce
    • Comeback Sauce
    • Mardi Gras Creole Sauce

    Kitchen Q&A's

Can I cook a full bag of crinkle fries in the air fryer?

It’s tempting, but it’s best to cook in batches. Overcrowding the basket means less airflow and soggy fries. A little patience goes a long way for crispy results!

Do I need to thaw the fries before cooking?

Nope! Frozen crinkle fries go straight from the freezer to the air fryer. They’ll cook up perfectly without any extra steps.

What’s the best air fryer to use?

Any air fryer will work, but models like the Ninja Air Fryer or Cosori TurboBlaze are fan favorites for even cooking and reliability.

Can I use other types of fries?

Absolutely! Try this method with waffle fries, shoestring fries, steak fries, or even curly fries. Adjust the cooking time slightly based on thickness.

Why do I need to shake the basket?

Shaking the basket ensures every fry gets its share of crispiness by redistributing them for even cooking. It’s a small step that makes a big difference.

Do I have to use cooking spray?

While you can skip it, a light spritz of cooking spray helps with both crispiness and non-stick magic. Olive oil or vegetable oil spray both work great!

    Storage & Freezing

Storage: Leftover fries? No problem! Place them in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days. Make sure they’ve cooled completely before sealing them up to avoid sogginess.

Freezing: Want to prep ahead or save leftovers? Lay your cooked fries on a baking sheet and freeze them in a single layer for about an hour. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. They’ll stay good for up to 2 months!

Reheating: Reheat your fries in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes at 375°F. This will bring back that perfect crispy texture – way better than microwaving, which can leave them limp.

Make Ahead: To make things easier, cook a batch of fries ahead of time and store them in the fridge or freezer. When ready to serve, just pop them in the air fryer for a quick reheat, and they’ll taste fresh and delicious.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Crinkle Cut Fries: Don’t have crinkle fries on hand? No problem! Use waffle fries, shoestring fries, steak fries, or even sweet potato fries. Just adjust the cook time based on thickness.
    • Cooking Spray: If you’re out of cooking spray, a drizzle of olive oil or vegetable oil works just as well. Use a brush or toss the fries in the oil to coat them lightly.
    • Salt: Switch it up with seasoned salt, garlic salt, or a sprinkle of your favorite spice blend for extra flavor.
    • Garlic Powder & Onion Powder: Add these before air frying to infuse your fries with a savory kick.
    • Chili Powder or Black Pepper: For a spicy twist, toss the fries with these seasonings before cooking.
    • Dipping Sauces: While ketchup is a classic, try something new like ranch, fry sauce, or even a tangy BBQ or honey mustard sauce. Want to go bold? Buffalo sauce or sriracha mayo are fantastic options!
    • Frozen Tater Tots or Popcorn Chicken: Use the same method to cook other frozen favorites. They’ll come out just as crispy and delicious.

    Pro Tips

    • Don’t Crowd the Basket. Air fryers work their magic by circulating hot air around the food, so give those fries some breathing room! Cook in a single layer for the crispiest fries. If you’re feeding a crowd, make multiple batches – it’s worth the extra few minutes.
    • Shake Things Up. Midway through cooking, give the basket a good shake. This ensures all your fries cook evenly, so no sad, undercooked stragglers ruin the party. Bonus: it helps you sneak a peek at how golden they’re getting!
    • Season Immediately. For fries that taste like they came straight from a restaurant, sprinkle your salt or seasonings on as soon as they come out of the air fryer. The heat helps the flavors stick and melt into every crispy ridge.
    • What to Serve with Crinkle Fries. These fries are the ultimate side dish! Pair them with air fryer burgers for a complete meal or serve alongside Dino Nuggets, chicken tenders, popcorn chicken, or even BBQ Ribs. For a snack plate, add some dipping sauces like ranch, BBQ, or honey mustard
