I’ve spent years testing and fine-tuning this recipe to bring you the most tender and juicy Air Fryer Chicken Breast—and I’m excited to share what really works. With decades of experience troubleshooting everyday kitchen challenges, I know how to help you avoid dry or flavorless chicken and get foolproof results every time.

Within minutes, you can have perfectly cooked chicken breasts ready in time for dinner with little to no effort! That's a win for sure, but there is more to just a plain piece of chicken to get me excited.

    Air Fryer Chicken Breast

To me it's super important to season meat prior to cooking. Salt, Pepper, Garlic are the basic musts for me. I sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides. Salt enhances the natural flavors in Chicken and of course adding some freshly ground pepper is a wonderful addition too.

But don't stop there. Another trick I like to use is to cut each breast in half lengthwise making a thin cutlet. Let's be honest, not all breasts are created equal. And the uneven thickness makes it difficult to cook evenly. Help yourself out and make cutlets which are more uniform in size and will cook so much easier.

Ingredient Roll Call for Air Fry Chicken Breast

This recipe will help you learn how to cook a chicken breast in the air fryer. Adding marinades, sauces, seasonings depending on how will serve the cooked chicken breasts can be swapped out for the simple salt and pepper seasonings where needed.

    • Chicken breasts (of similar size) - Not all chicken breasts are created equally. Choosing similar size chicken breasts will ensure even air frying
    • Salt and pepper - Salt helps bring out the natural flavors of the chicken meat, while pepper will add to the flavors.
    • Seasoned Salt or Herbs (optional) - If you are looking for a standard air fryer chicken that can be used from salads, to sandwiches, to added to casseroles this is where you can adjust the flavor profile to exactly what you want!

    The Must Haves

    • Air Fryer - Cosori is my favorite brand of Air Fryer for it's easy use, clean up and even Air Frying.
    • Tongs - Don't get burned, use these tongs to lift and remove items from the Air Fryer
    • Parchment paper (optional) - A great way to keep the air fryer basket clean

Let's Make It! Air Fryer Chicken Breast

    • Season your Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts with salt and pepper or additional seasons of your choice
    • Preheat air fryer to 350F Degrees - This helps to bring the Air Fryer to temperature and gives even cooking time for the raw chicken
    • Place seasoned chicken breasts into the preheated air fryer and cook for 8 minutes per side.
    • Flip chicken breasts over and rotate 180 degrees. Just like cooking in a microwave, the Air Fryer does so much better when foods placed inside are flipped over and rotated for even cooking throughout
    • Chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165F degrees at it's thickest point to be fully cooked.
    • Serve and Enjoy!

Tip: Using chicken breasts that are of similar size and thickness helps to ensure even air frying. Which means you won't have chicken that is dried out from over air frying times.

How to Keep Air Fryer Chicken Breast Juicy

    • Don’t overcook: Use a digital thermometer to check and ensure chicken reaches 165F degrees
    • Rest time (5 minutes): Allowing chicken to rest helps to keep the natural juices inside the chicken keeping it most, juicy and delicious.
    • Even thickness (pound or slice): I like to slice chicken breasts making 2 smaller fillets for ease.

Should I marinate or Brine my Chicken Breast?

You don’t have to if you don’t want to, it’s totally up to your preference as to which option you’d prefer.

That being said, making a nice brine out of salt and warm water and allowing your breasts to sit in it for about 30 minutes prior to cooking could help to get them to retain even more juiciness when cooked.

Kitchen Q&A's for Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

Do I need to use Oil to Air Fry Chicken Breasts?

Adding a little oil can help to get seasonings to stick and help the outer skin of the chicken breasts to crisp up a little, so if those sound like something you’d enjoy, go ahead and add a little bit of olive oil to your chicken breasts.
I prefer to use a little Avocado Oil spray personally. It tends to smoke less in the air fryer.

Can you cook frozen chicken breast in an air fryer?

Yes you can! Just adjust the time a little and you should be good to go.
Try increasing the time by an additional 5 minutes at a time, checking often to see if the chicken has reached proper temp.

How does an Air Fryer work?

An air fryer is like a mini convection oven that works by circulating the air around the food.
This increases the speed in which food cooks and gives you a nice browning and layer or crispness depending on what is being cooked and for how long.

Do you need to Flip Chicken in Air Fryer?

I always recommend flipping chicken over. AND it's a great idea to rotate the chicken too. Just like ovens, air fryers can get 'hot spots'. Flipping and rotating items in the Air Fryer truly helps an even air flow and cooking process.

Can I use Chicken Thighs in Air Fryer

Yes, of course you can. Chicken Thighs cook a little differently in the Air fryer but are also very forgiving. Start by cooking a minute or two less per side and make sure to use a digital thermometer to test the internal temperature reaches 165F degrees.

How do I know how long to Air Fry a Chicken Breast?

Your chicken is done cooking when the juices run clear and the thermometer reads 165 degrees. The meat will be firm and the chicken will be delicious, juicy, and safe to eat.

    5 Star Review

"With your helpful tips the chicken breast in the air fryer come out juicy and tender! Thank you for making this recipe so simple for me."

    Fridge & Freezer Magic

Store leftover chicken in a sealed container or a ziplock bag in the refrigerator. Chicken should be enjoyed within 3-4 days of cooking if placed in the refrigerator.

Freezing Air Fryer Chicken Breasts is also simple. Place cooked chicken in an air tight container or zip loc bag and freeze for up to 3 months. I like to slice chicken into strips and freeze. Then I can easily pull out a few strips to use for a quick lunch or dinner.

    Reheating Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

I like to preheat an air fryer to 330F degrees and heat for 1-2 minutes. Less if chicken is cut into strips or smaller pieces.

Ways to Use Air Fryer Chicken Breasts

After testing this recipe what seems like hundreds of times I simple love how easy it is to make tender and juicy chicken in the Air Fryer and use for so many different recipes. Let me share some of my favorites.

Add to salads to boost your daily protein intake, throw into a soup, or even slice and add to sandwich with your favorite toppings. And cooked chicken is also super simple to add to a casserole recipe and so much more.

Kitchen Secrets for Chicken Breast Air Fryer

Not all chicken breasts are created equal. Sorry, it's true! Have you ever tried to cook a chicken breast that's twice the size of your hand with a sweet tiny breast? It doesn't work out so well for that sweet tiny breast now does it?

Rule of thumb: Always use breasts of equal size. Thick breasts can be sliced in half to make cutlets too! When chicken is of equal size and thickness it will cook more evenly and ensuring that the chicken juicy and tender when fully cooked.
