Frozen Texas Toast in Air Fryer is a great way to add a quick and easy side dish that everyone will enjoy, adding a touch of comfort and nostalgia to any meal.

The hot air circulation in the air fryer ensures each slice of Texas toast is evenly cooked, with a delightful crispy exterior and a warm, buttery inside.

It can be paired with pasta dishes, like my favorite Bow Tie Pasta, used as a base for a savory open-faced sandwich, or simply enjoyed as a standalone snack, making it a versatile addition to nearly any meal.

Ingredient Roll Call for Air Fryer Texas Toast

    • Texas Toast - Garlic or Cheese. These thick slices of bread come pre-slathered with either garlic butter or a cheese mix, making them ready to cook straight from the freezer. The garlic version provides a robust flavor, perfect for garlic lovers, while the cheese version melts beautifully for a gooey, savory experience.

    The Must-Haves

    • Air Fryer - Creates that even golden crispness without turning on the oven
    • Cooking Spray - Keeps slices from sticking
    • Tongs - Makes Flipping hot toast easy and safe!

Frozen Texas Toast Air Fryer Instructions (Time + Temp)

    1. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F for 5 minutes, then lightly spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray. This prevents the toast from sticking and helps achieve a more even golden crust.
    2. Arrange the Texas Toast slices in a single layer in the basket. It’s important not to overcrowd the basket to allow proper air circulation around each slice, which is key for even cooking.

    1. Air fry at 350°F for 4 minutes, then flip each slice over to ensure even browning and continue air frying for an additional 4-5 minutes. The exact time might vary slightly depending on your air fryer model and personal preference for how crispy you like your toast.
    2. After the initial cooking time, check the toast. The bread should feel hot to the touch and the sides of the bread should be golden brown. If it’s not quite there yet, you can cook it for an extra 1-2 minutes. Be sure to watch closely to avoid burning.
    3. Once cooked to your satisfaction, carefully remove the Texas toast from the air fryer basket. Serve immediately to enjoy the toast at its crispiest and most delicious. It’s perfect as a side to tomato soup, salads, or any of your favorite pasta dishes.

    Kitchen Q&A's

Can I make Texas toast in the air fryer without flipping it?

Yes, you can make Texas toast in the air fryer without flipping, but flipping it halfway through ensures even cooking and browning on both sides. For best results, it's recommended to flip the slices.

What's the best way to achieve extra crispy Texas toast in the air fryer?

For extra crispy Texas toast, you might add an extra minute or two to the cooking time in the air fryer. Just keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't burn.

Can I add toppings to my Texas toast before air frying?

Yes, you can add additional toppings like extra cheese, fresh herbs, or even a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese before air frying to enhance flavor and texture.

Do I have to Flip the Toast?

Technically no, but flipping gives you even browning and prevents a soggy underside.

How can I make it Extra Crispy?

Add an additional minute or two at the end. Just make sure to watch it closely to avoid burning.

    How to Reheat Texas Toast

Re-heat by placing in Air Fryer at 350F Degrees for about a minut. . Enjoy!

    Fridge & Freezer Magic

Storage: Leftover garlic bread can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer or toaster for the best texture.

Freezing: You can freeze leftover Texas toast by placing the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze until solid, about 1-2 hours. Once frozen, transfer the slices to freezer-safe bags or wrap them in foil. Be sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, you can cook the Texas toast straight from the freezer, adding about 1-2 minutes to the usual cooking time in the air fryer.

I would only recommend freezing leftover Texas toast if it is necessary. It takes much more time and effort to freeze leftovers than to reheat from the fridge or to cook a new batch, and they could lose quality or be ruined due to freezer burn.

Flavor Fixes & Swap it Out

Experimenting with different substitutions and variations can help you tailor Frozen Texas Toast to your taste preferences or dietary needs. Here are some creative ideas to spice up your Texas toast.

    Substitutions

    • Bread Type: If you don’t have Texas toast, you can use any thick-sliced bread to make homemade Texas toast. French or Italian loaves are good substitutes that will still hold up well in the air fryer. If using fresh bread, reduce the cook time to 3 minutes per side, or until the edges are golden brown.
    • Butter Alternatives: For a dairy-free version, use plant-based butter or olive oil instead of regular butter. This will help maintain the richness without using dairy.
    • Cheese Options: Instead of traditional cheeses, try using vegan cheese or a different type of melting cheese like provolone or Gouda for a different flavor profile.

    Variations

    • Garlic Parmesan Texas Toast: Enhance your garlic Texas toast by adding a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning before air frying. This adds a nice savory depth to the flavor.
    • Cheesy Garlic Bread: Combine mozzarella and cheddar cheeses with a dash of garlic powder. Spread this mixture on the bread for a cheesy garlic version that’s perfect as a hearty snack or side dish.
    • Herb and Spice Texas Toast: Mix in some fresh or dried herbs like parsley, basil, or oregano with the butter. A pinch of red pepper flakes can also add a slight kick.
    • Sweet Texas Toast: For a sweet twist, brush your Texas toast with a mixture of melted butter and cinnamon sugar before air frying. This makes for a delightful dessert or sweet breakfast option.

    Kitchen Secrets & Cooking Clues

    • Don’t skip preheating your air fryer. This step is crucial as it helps the toast start cooking immediately and evenly.
    • A light spray of cooking oil on the air fryer basket can help prevent the toast from sticking and help achieve a crisper texture.
    • If you're a garlic lover, mince some fresh garlic and sprinkle it on the toast before air frying. It will elevate the garlic flavor far beyond what you get with garlic powder.
    • Don't cover the entire bottom of the basket but always arrange the Texas toast in a single layer with some space between each piece instead. This ensures even air circulation and cooking, preventing soggy spots and promoting a uniform golden crust. The number of slices you can cook per batch will depend on the size of your air fryer model, but it will always take the same amount of time, whether cooking one slice or five.
    • For buttery toast with an even richer flavor and more golden crust, lightly brush the top of the Texas toast with a bit of melted butter or olive oil before the final few minutes of cooking.
    • If you prefer your Texas toast extra crispy, add an additional minute or two to the cooking time. Just keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
    • Texas toast is best enjoyed fresh out of the air fryer while it’s still warm and crispy. If it sits too long, it may start to soften.
    • Serve Texas toast as a side with tomato soup, salads, or alongside your favorite pasta dinner. It adds a satisfying crunch and flavor that complements a variety of main dishes.
