Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Delicious Egg Bites

    • Large Eggs. The base of the recipe, providing structure and protein.
    • Cottage Cheese. Adds creaminess and a subtle tang, plus extra protein.
    • Half and Half or Heavy Cream. Ensures the egg bites are rich and fluffy.
    • Mozzarella Cheese. Melts beautifully, adding a cheesy goodness.
    • Ham Cubes. Adds a savory, meaty flavor.
    • Salt and Pepper. Basic seasonings to enhance the flavors.
    • Baking Spray. Ensures the egg bites don’t stick to the silicone mold.

How to Make Air Fryer Egg Bites

    1. Start by combining the eggs, cottage cheese, half and half (or heavy cream), salt, and pepper in a blender. Blend until the mixture is smooth and well combined, which should take about 30 seconds. This blending step is crucial as it ensures the egg bites will be light and fluffy.
    2. Spray the silicone egg bite mold with baking spray to prevent sticking. Fill each well with a tablespoon of ham cubes and a pinch of mozzarella cheese, then pour the egg mixture over the ham and cheese in the silicone molds, filling each well.
    3. Place the filled mold into the preheated air fryer basket and cook at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.

    FAQs

Can I use egg whites instead of whole eggs?

Yes, you can substitute egg whites for a lower-calorie option.

Can I make these egg bites in an Instant Pot?

Yes, you can use an Instant Pot with a silicone egg mold, but the cooking time will differ.

What are some good mix-ins for these egg bites?

Chopped spinach, bell peppers, green onions, and various cheeses like goat cheese or feta.

How can I ensure my egg bites are not too dry?

Using ingredients like cottage cheese and heavy cream helps keep them moist.

Can I prepare these egg bites in advance?

Absolutely, they are great for meal prep and can be stored for later use.

    Storage & Freezing

Storage: To store your leftover Air Fryer Egg Bites, let them cool completely after cooking. Once cooled, place them in an airtight container and refrigerate. They will stay fresh for up to 5 days, making them a convenient option for meal prepping.

Freezing: For longer storage, you can freeze leftover egg bites. Place the cooled egg bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe container or freezer bag. They can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Reheating: When you're ready to eat, you can reheat the egg bites directly from the refrigerator or freezer. For refrigerated egg bites, microwave on high for 30-60 seconds until heated through. For frozen egg bites, microwave on high for 1-2 minutes or until fully warmed.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • You can use egg whites for a lower-calorie egg option, or a mix of whole eggs and egg whites for a balanced approach.
    • If you don’t have cottage cheese, ricotta cheese or Greek yogurt can be used as substitutes for a similar texture and flavor.
    • Milk or a non-dairy milk alternative can be used instead of Half and Half or Heavy Cream for a lighter version.
    • Feel free to substitute Mozzarella Cheese with cheddar, Monterey Jack, feta, or goat cheese to change up the flavor profile.
    • Swap Ham Cubes with cooked bacon bits, sausage crumbles, or even a vegetarian protein like cooked quinoa for a different taste.
    • Experiment with different vegetables such as bell peppers, spinach, tomatoes, or mushrooms.
    • Fresh herbs like chives, parsley, or basil can also add a burst of flavor.

    Pro Tips

    • To achieve a creamy texture similar to the famous Starbucks sous vide egg bites, make sure to blend the egg mixture until completely smooth. The addition of cottage cheese and heavy cream also contributes to the creamy consistency.
    • Always spray your silicone molds with baking spray before filling them. This step ensures that the egg bites release easily after cooking, maintaining their shape and making cleanup easier.
    • To ensure even cooking, do not overfill the silicone molds. Filling each well about ¾ full is perfect, allowing the egg mixture to expand and cook through without overflowing.
    • These Air Fryer Egg Bites pair well with a side of fresh fruit, a light salad, or some crispy air fryer bacon for a complete breakfast. They also make a great addition to a brunch spread alongside hard-boiled eggs and fresh herbs.
