- Powdered Sugar. Adds sweetness and structure to the cream cheese filling.
- Heavy Whipping Cream. Helps the filling achieve a good, creamy texture.
- Vanilla Extract. Adds a warm, sweet flavor to the Danishes.
- Egg. For the egg wash give your pastries a golden brown finish.
- Water. Used to mix with the egg for the egg wash.

FAQs
Yes, a toaster oven can be used, just adjust the cooking time and keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Absolutely! Feel free to add your favorite fruit or jam to the filling for an extra flavor boost.
Ricotta cheese is a good substitute for cream cheese in this recipe.
Storage & Freezing
Storage: Once your danishes have fully cooled on a cooling rack, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be enjoyed for up to 3 days, and I'd recommend reheating them slightly for the best results.
Freezing: To freeze, place the pastries in a single layer on a lined baking sheet and freeze until solid. Once solid, transfer them to a Ziplock bag or a sealed container, separating layers with parchment paper.
Reheating: To reheat, you can place the frozen danish directly in a hot oven, toaster oven, or air fryer until warmed through and the pastry is crispy again.

Substitutions & Variations
- Add a fruity filling. Add a spoonful of jam or pie filling on top of Danish prior to baking these treats to add fruity flavor. Plum jam, strawberry jam, and other fruity jams work well in these pastries. You could also top the Cream Cheese Danish with fresh fruit for a fresh fruity twist.
- Add a glaze. Elevate these treats by adding a drizzle of icing made with Powdered Sugar and Water, once they have cooled.
- Use Crescent Rolls instead. If you don't have sheets of puff pastry to hand, crescent rolls can be a good alternative. They won’t be as flaky but will still offer a delightful taste!
- Try another extract. Substitute your favorite extracts for Vanilla Extract for a different flavor. Try Almond Extract, Lemon Extract, Strawberry Extract, etc. to complement your filling choice.
- Lemon Danish. Add a spoonful of lemon curd to the cream cheese mixture for a lemon cheese danish.
Pro Tips
- Baking to perfection. Keep a close eye on the pastries. The key to perfect danishes is achieving that golden brown color, so remove them from the oven or air fryer basket as soon as they reach this stage.
- Smooth cream cheese mixture. Make sure the cream cheese has softened to room temperature to make it mix more smoothly. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer to do this will yield the best results, giving you a truly creamy and lump-free filling.
