How to make Cream Cheese Danish recipe?
- Allow your puff pastry to thaw on the counter while you mix up the cream cheese filling.
- In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream.
- Using a hand mixer, combine the ingredients and then set them aside.
- Unfold the puff pastry and cut it into 4 squares.
- Cut each square into 4 rectangles.
- Using a knife, score the edges of each rectangle about ¼ inch in from the edge. This helps to allow the puff pastry to puff up around the cream cheese filling.
- Place one large teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture into the middle of the danish.
- In a small bowl, combine the egg and water with a whisk.
- Brush the egg mix on the puff pastry and then sprinkle on the coarse sugar.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 12-14 minutes or until the danishes are a golden brown.
- To make the glaze, cut the butter into the powdered sugar in a small bowl using a pastry cutter or fork.
- Add in the vanilla.
- Add in the milk a little at a time and mix.
- You may need additional milk to reach your desired consistency to drizzle the glaze over the warm cream cheese danish.
How long will Cream Cheese Danish Recipe Last?
You can expect your danishes to last up to a week, but they taste much better when they’re freshly made. After that, you may notice that the cream cheese either dries out or begins to separate a little, which is unappealing to look at.
Can I serve Cream Cheese Danish cold?
While cream cheese danishes taste great warm, you can serve them at room temperature or even chilled if that’s how you prefer it!
How to Store Cream Cheese Danish
Pastries with a cream cheese filling should be kept well wrapped in an airtight container in the fridge. This not only helps to keep them safe for consumption but can also help to keep them from drying out.
Can I freeze Cream Cheese Danish?
Yes! I highly recommend freezing them flat on a baking sheet first and then transferring to an airtight container or Ziploc bag. This helps to keep the danishes from sticking to one another and makes it a lot easier to grab one when you’re hungry.
Can I add other ingredients/flavors to my Cream cheese danish?
Absolutely, not only will that give you more flavorful options to choose from but it can also help to make mealtime more delicious and colorful.
Adding your favorite jam such as raspberry or strawberry on top of the cream cheese mixture before baking is one fruity option.
Another option is adding on some apple pie filling or placing a dollop of hazelnut spread and don't forget Pumpkin!
Mix and match with some of your favorite options and see what you like best.
