Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Stuffed Chicken Breast
- Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts. The star of the show! Choose medium-sized skinless breasts so they cook evenly in the air fryer and hold the creamy mixture without falling apart.
- Olive Oil. Helps the spice rub stick to the outside of the chicken and gives it that golden brown crisp in the air fryer basket.
- Ground Paprika. Adds smoky depth and beautiful color to the outside of the chicken. Smoked paprika is also a tasty option.
- Salt. Enhances all the flavors in both the chicken and the creamy filling.
- Ground Pepper. Adds subtle heat and sharpness to balance the richness of the cheese.
- Garlic Powder. Brings bold, savory flavor that blends perfectly with onion powder and spices.
- Onion Powder. Adds extra flavor to both the spice rub and the filling without the bite of raw onion.
- Yellow Onion. Sliced and sautéed until caramelized for sweetness and richness inside the creamy filling.
- Butter. Used to cook the onions—adds flavor and helps them caramelize to perfection.
- Cream Cheese. The creamy base that gives the filling its smooth texture and rich taste. Make sure it’s softened!
- Parmesan Cheese. Adds saltiness and a slightly nutty flavor to the mixture—fresh grated is best.
- Mozzarella Cheese. Melts beautifully inside the chicken and on top, giving that perfect cheesy pull.
- Salt and Pepper (for the filling). A final sprinkle to season the creamy mixture before it goes inside the chicken.

How to Make Air Fryer Stuffed Chicken Breast
- Start by caramelizing your onions. Slice a yellow onion thin, dice it up, and toss it in a skillet with melted butter over medium-high heat. Let it cook until golden and soft—this adds amazing sweetness and depth to the creamy filling.
- In a small bowl, mix together softened cream cheese, parmesan cheese, mozzarella, and those sweet caramelized onions. Give it a pinch of salt and pepper, stir it all up, and your delicious cheese mixture is ready to stuff!

- Pat your boneless skinless chicken breasts dry with a paper towel, then place each one on a cutting board. Use a sharp knife to carefully cut a pocket into the thickest part of the side of each chicken breast—don’t cut all the way through!

- Spoon about ¼ cup of the creamy mixture of spinach and cheese (if you’ve added chopped spinach) into each chicken pocket.

- Seal the side of the chicken breast with toothpicks to keep all that melted cheese where it belongs.

- In a small bowl, mix together your spice rub—paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub olive oil over the outside of the chicken, then sprinkle the seasoning on both sides. This is what gives you that flavorful, golden brown crust.
- Place stuffed chicken breasts in a single layer in your preheated air fryer basket. Air fry at 350°F for 16-18 minutes, flipping halfway through. Use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 165°F at the thickest part.
- If you want that melted cheese magic on top of the chicken, go ahead and sprinkle a little extra mozzarella cheese over each piece during the last minute or so. Let it melt in the warm air fryer for the best results. Then serve it hot and enjoy every bite of this quick, easy air fryer dinner!

Storage & Freezing
Storage: To keep those juicy chicken breasts tasting fresh, place leftovers in an airtight container or wrap each piece tightly in plastic wrap. Store in the fridge for up to 3–4 days. The creamy filling stays flavorful, and the outside of the chicken keeps that golden texture when stored properly.
Freezing: Want to save it for later? Wrap each air fryer stuffed chicken breast individually in freezer-safe plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Then pop them all into a freezer bag, squeezing out excess air. This keeps them safe from freezer burn and delicious for up to 3 months.
Reheating: For best results, use your air fryer to reheat! Set it to 350°F and warm each piece for 2–3 minutes or until heated through. This keeps the outside crisp and the creamy mixture of spinach and cheese warm and melty inside.
Make Ahead: You can easily prep the stuffed chicken breasts in advance—just trim, stuff, and season them. Wrap each one in plastic wrap or place them in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 24 hours before air frying. It’s a simple way to have an easy dinner ready when you are!

Substitutions & Variations
- Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts. You can also use boneless chicken thighs for a juicier option with slightly shorter cook time.
- Olive Oil. Avocado oil or melted butter also work great to help seasonings stick and crisp up the outside of the chicken.
- Ground Paprika. Smoked paprika adds a bold, smoky kick if you want deeper flavor.
- Garlic Powder & Onion Powder. Fresh garlic or sautéed onions can be used, but the powders keep prep quick and easy.
- Cream Cheese. Goat cheese, ricotta, or even a herbed cheese spread can add a fun twist to the creamy filling.
- Parmesan Cheese. Asiago or Romano bring a similar salty, nutty vibe.
- Mozzarella Cheese. Swap in provolone, pepper jack cheese, or sharp cheddar cheese depending on your mood and spice level.
- Yellow Onion. Shallots or red onions caramelize beautifully too and add a slightly different flavor.
- Butter. Ghee or plant-based butter alternatives will still caramelize those onions perfectly.
- Spinach (optional add-in). Use chopped spinach, kale, or even chopped bell peppers for texture and color.
- Toothpicks. No toothpicks? Try kitchen twine or place the chicken seam-side down to help hold in the creamy filling.
Pro Tips
- Even thickness = even cooking. Use medium-sized chicken breasts that are roughly the same size so they cook evenly in the air fryer. If yours are on the thick side, you can gently pound them to an even thickness before cutting the pocket—just don't flatten them completely.
- Don’t overstuff. As tempting as it is to pack in loads of that creamy mixture, too much filling can ooze out during cooking. Stick to about ¼ cup per piece, and seal with toothpicks to keep all that delicious cheese tucked inside.
- Check the temp—not the time. Air fryer models vary, so always check the internal temperature of the chicken at the thickest part. You’re aiming for 165°F for the juiciest chicken and the best results every single time.
- What to serve with Stuffed Chicken. This delicious stuffed chicken breast goes great with roasted root vegetables, loaded mashed potatoes, or a fresh side dish like green beans or a crisp salad. It’s also fantastic sliced over pasta or tucked into a wrap for leftovers with flair!
