    Cinnamon Monkey Bread Shopping List

    • Pillsbury Pop Biscuits - I prefer the smaller biscuits that come 10 to a package
    • Butter ~ Use butter over margarine in this recipe
    • Sugar ~ Dixie Crystals Sugar is my new favorite. It's fine crystals are perfect in coating each biscuit
    • Cinnamon ~ I use McCormick Spices as I find they are fresh and have great taste

    Supplies Used

    • Pyrex Mixing Bowls
    • Bunt Pan

How to make Cinnamon Monkey Bread

    • Preheat Oven to 350F Degrees
    • In a small bowl combine Cinnamon and Sugar and mix to combine. Set aside
    • In a separate bowl melt butter in the microwave. Slice butter into smaller cubes and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave for additional 10-20 seconds as needed until melted.
    • Spray large Bundt Pan with Cooking Spray
    • Melted Butter and Cinnamon and Sugar in separate bowls
    • placing biscuits into bundt pan
    Monkey Bread in Bundt Pan
    • Open Pillsbury Pop Biscuits. One at a time dip biscuit into butter allowing excess to drip off.
    • Dip butter-coated biscuit into cinnamon and sugar mixture making sure it's covered on all sides.
    • Place biscuit in Bunt Pan edge to edge on the bottom making a ring
    • Place the second layer offset on top of the bottom layer like a brick pattern.
    • Biscuits will fill in gaps while cooking.
    • Bake for 35 - 40 minutes or until biscuits are cooked.
    • To check use a sharp knife to check biscuits in the center.
    • Remove from oven when done cooking and flip out of the pan onto a large plate
    • Serve while hot
    • OPTIONAL Drizzle
    • Mix Powdered Sugar with Butter and add milk for a thin glaze drizzle.
    • Drizzle over top

The smell of hot cinnamon and sugar bubble bread will fill the kitchen and bring everyone running for this sweet treat.

Why do they call Monkey Bread Monkey Bread?

Monkey Bread gets its name because of how it's eaten. By breaking off pieces of bread in small pieces.

Does Monkey Bread have to be made in a Bundt Pan?

Most often made in a Bundt Pan it's not a requirement nor does it change the taste when baked in a loaf pan, Ramekin, or even on a cookie sheet. Bunt Pans provide a visually pretty display.

How do you know when Monkey Bread is done?

Monkey Bread can be difficult to tell when it's done. A crispy outside is ideal. Insert a knife or skewer into the center to test. When it comes out clean, it's ready!

This was a classic recipe in my family growing up with lots of fond memories of me trying to sneak a piece before my brothers and sister realized what was going on in the kitchen. And if truth be told, I always love to pick off the first bite even now before my boys get their hands on it.

    Pans

Any pan will do for this recipe - BUT a bunt pan makes the presentation of the monkey bread amazing and boy does it make your mouth really water!

We serve Cinnamon Monkey Bread for Breakfast or an afternoon snack. It's also fun to serve for Brunch or a family movie night.

    Optional Addins

Traditional Cinnamon Monkey Bread is a favorite, but don't stop there. Here are a few additions we enjoy!

    • Bacon Crumbles
    • Raisins ~ Sprinkle between layers and bake as directed
    • Blueberries ~ Sprinkle between layers and bake as directed

We do love a savory Monkey Bread too. Pizza Monkey Bread is a fun favorite. Don't forget to make additional Pizza Sauce to dip in! Maple Bacon Monkey Bread will wow your tastebuds if you like that sweet and salty combination.

    Cinnamon Monkey Bread

Sweet Cinnamon and Sugar Monkey Bread made with refrigerator biscuits
    Prep Time15 minutes mins
    Cook Time40 minutes mins
Prevent your screen from going dark
    Course: Breads
    Cuisine: American
    Servings: 8

    Ingredients

    • ¾ Cup Butter - Melted
    • 1 Cup Sugar
    • 4 teaspoon Cinnamon
    • 4 cans Pop-Biscuit - 10 to a can

    Optional Glaze

    • 1 ½ Cup Powdered Sugar
    • 2 Tbl Butter
    • 2-3 Tbl Milk - as needed for glaze

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350F
    • Spray a bunt pan with cooking spray
    • In a small bowl, melt butter.
    • In a separate bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon
    • Open pop bisucits and dip each biscuit (front and back) in melted butter and then dip in sugar mixture. Place in bunt pan forming a ring in the bottom of the pan. Overlap the second and remaining layers.
    • Biscuits will fill in gaps while cooking. Do not over pack biscuits.
    • Bake for 35 - 40 minutes. I like to poke a knife into the center to make sure it's done. Sometimes it needs a few minutes more or less.
    • Remove from oven when done cooking and flip out of the pan onto a large plate
    • Serve while hot

    OPTIONAL Drizzle

    • Mix Powdered Sugar with Butter and add milk for a thin glaze drizzle. Drizzle over top of Monkey Bread

    Notes

Tip: place biscuits in a single ring on the bottom of Bundt Pan.  Stack biscuits on top in a brick pattern.  Continue with all biscuits.  Gaps will fill in during baking.  Do not overpack.  Allow gaps on outer edges AND in inner circle by the center.
I prefer to use a large Bundt Pan.  You could also use Loaf Pans, Ramekins, or even a Cookie Sheet

I love looking back on old posts. This recipe is near and dear to my heart as it's one of the first recipes I learned how to make as a young child. The recipe is the same, but thankfully the quality of photography has improved! Enjoy these old photos. It's always fun to look back from where you came.
