I have a few fun extra ingredients thrown into this easy recipe that I'll share with you. The meat is a seasoned taco meat, just like eating a ground beef taco. Yum!

Aside from adding diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, green onions, and tortilla chips, you will also add cream cheese. I love to use my Homemade Refried Beans recipe made in the Instant Pot but you can also used a canned refried beans too.

    Taco Dip with Meat Recipe

Hot Taco Dip is perfect for Game Day, or even a simple Family Game Night and of course can be served as a Hot Dip or a Cold Taco Dip.

And of course if you want some dipping sauces you can try Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce or Cowboy Dipping Sauce which is a combination of Ranch and BBQ Sauce.

Ingredient Roll Call! Layered Taco Dip

    • Ground Beef: Adds hearty, savory flavor and turns this from a simple dip into a satisfying snack.
    • Taco Seasoning: Choose mild, medium, or hot depending on your spice preference it brings that classic taco taste.
    • Refried Beans: Creates the sturdy, creamy base that holds everything together. You can use canned or homemade.
    • Cream Cheese: Softened to spread easily; it gives richness and tang to the creamy layer.
    • Sour Cream (or Greek Yogurt): Blends with the cream cheese for a smooth texture and a hint of cool flavor contrast.
    • Cheese: Cheddar, Mexican blend, or queso blend freshly shredded melts and tastes best.
    • Tomatoes: Diced for freshness and color.
    • Black Olives: Salty bites that pop in every scoop.
    • Green Onions: Bright and mild onion flavor that ties the layers together.
    • Optional Toppings: Avocado, salsa, lettuce, bell peppers, jalapeños, guacamole, or extra sour cream.
    • Tortilla Chips: Sturdy chips are a must for dipping through all those layers!

    The Must-Haves

    • Large Skillet: For browning the beef and mixing in seasoning.
    • Mixing Bowls: Separate bowls for layering and combining the creamy base.
    • 9×13 Baking Dish: Perfect for layering and serving.
    • Rubber Spatula: To spread each layer evenly.
    • Serving Spoon or Small Offset Spreader: For neat, clean layers.

    Best Ever Layered Mexican Dip

What makes this recipe the BEST Ever? Well, I think adding meat to this Taco Dip truly steps it up a notch. I also love that this recipe is very similar to a Seven Layer Dip and you can add all your favorite toppings.

Just in case you need more ideas for toppings I've included some of our favorites.

When to Serve Taco Dip with Refried Beans

I've mentioned that this Seven Layer Taco Dip is ideal for the big game, the Super Bowl of course! But it's also fantastic for New Years Eve, Family Gatherings, Movie Nights with Friends, or a cozy Game night at home.

Don't forget Cinco de Mayo! Adding this fun Dip Recipe to your Taco Tuesday or Cinco de Mayo party is also ideal.

Do yourself a favor and have some extra Sour Cream or a Sour Cream Mixture of Salsa and sour cream for those that want a little extra on their plate. I love to have extra toppings in small bowls and plate on a cutting board like a Charcuterie Board. Allowing everyone to add those extra fun toppings they like.

It's an easy appetizer and great addition for every event.  With simple ingredients this crowd pleaser is always a huge hit with so many great options that everyone loves.

    Kitchen Secrets

We love to enjoy this Chips and Dip recipe hot. The hot beans and meat with the cool cream cheese sour cream layer is fantastic.

But that doesn't mean you can't also serve this dip cold and in fact, it's delicious cold. I recommend allowing this recipe sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors come together.

Taco Dip with Meat in baking dish

Serve with tortilla Chips. But don't hesitate to substitute chips with a Kale Chip, Zucchini Chip or even a Carrot Chip. It's a fun substitute

Flavor Fixes / Swap it Out!

    • Sour Cream ~ Greek Plain Yogurt
    • Ground Beef ~ Ground Chicken or Ground Turkey
    • Refried Beans ~ Sautéed Onions and Diced Bell Peppers
    • Tortilla Chips ~ Kale Chips, Zucchini Chips, Carrot Chips
    • Cheese ~ Monterey Jack Cheese, Pepper Jack Cheese or even a Queso blend Cheese

Cooking Methods for 7 Layer Taco Dip

I prefer to make this Seven layer Taco Dip using a skillet when cooking the ground beef. But using a Crock Pot to keep this dip warm is ideal if you prefer a Hot Taco Dip.

Layer the recipe just like you would in a baking dish except place in a Crock Pot or slow cooker and keep on warm for a perfect temperature. Keep in mind the sour cream layer and cheese will get warm and melty which is tasty.
