I have a few fun extra ingredients thrown into this easy recipe that I'll share with you. The meat is a seasoned taco meat, just like eating a ground beef taco. Yum!
Aside from adding diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, green onions, and tortilla chips, you will also add cream cheese. I love to use my Homemade Refried Beans recipe made in the Instant Pot but you can also used a canned refried beans too.

Hot Taco Dip is perfect for Game Day, or even a simple Family Game Night and of course can be served as a Hot Dip or a Cold Taco Dip.
And of course if you want some dipping sauces you can try Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce or Cowboy Dipping Sauce which is a combination of Ranch and BBQ Sauce.
Ingredient Roll Call! Layered Taco Dip
- Ground Beef: Adds hearty, savory flavor and turns this from a simple dip into a satisfying snack.
- Taco Seasoning: Choose mild, medium, or hot depending on your spice preference it brings that classic taco taste.
- Refried Beans: Creates the sturdy, creamy base that holds everything together. You can use canned or homemade.

- Sour Cream (or Greek Yogurt): Blends with the cream cheese for a smooth texture and a hint of cool flavor contrast.

Let's Make It! Beef Taco Dip
In a large skillet over medium/high heat brown ground beef until no longer pink. Remove excess fat if necessary. Add taco seasoning with water and simmer until heated through.


Spread hot or cold refried beans on the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish and evenly spread cooked ground beef over refried beans.


Spread Guacamole over meat mixture by placing dollops in baking dish and carefully spread.
In a separate bowl combine softened cream cheese with sour cream and taco seasoning. Mix to combine and spread over Avocado and meat mixture.


Top with diced tomatoes, green onions, shredded cheese, avocado, jalapeno, salsa and any other toppings you enjoy


Chill for an hour and serve cold or serve immediately and serve hot.
Best Ever Layered Mexican Dip
What makes this recipe the BEST Ever? Well, I think adding meat to this Taco Dip truly steps it up a notch. I also love that this recipe is very similar to a Seven Layer Dip and you can add all your favorite toppings.

When to Serve Taco Dip with Refried Beans
I've mentioned that this Seven Layer Taco Dip is ideal for the big game, the Super Bowl of course! But it's also fantastic for New Years Eve, Family Gatherings, Movie Nights with Friends, or a cozy Game night at home.
Don't forget Cinco de Mayo! Adding this fun Dip Recipe to your Taco Tuesday or Cinco de Mayo party is also ideal.
Do yourself a favor and have some extra Sour Cream or a Sour Cream Mixture of Salsa and sour cream for those that want a little extra on their plate. I love to have extra toppings in small bowls and plate on a cutting board like a Charcuterie Board. Allowing everyone to add those extra fun toppings they like.

We love to enjoy this Chips and Dip recipe hot. The hot beans and meat with the cool cream cheese sour cream layer is fantastic.
But that doesn't mean you can't also serve this dip cold and in fact, it's delicious cold. I recommend allowing this recipe sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors come together.

Serve with tortilla Chips. But don't hesitate to substitute chips with a Kale Chip, Zucchini Chip or even a Carrot Chip. It's a fun substitute

Cooking Methods for 7 Layer Taco Dip
I prefer to make this Seven layer Taco Dip using a skillet when cooking the ground beef. But using a Crock Pot to keep this dip warm is ideal if you prefer a Hot Taco Dip.
Layer the recipe just like you would in a baking dish except place in a Crock Pot or slow cooker and keep on warm for a perfect temperature. Keep in mind the sour cream layer and cheese will get warm and melty which is tasty.

Fridge & Freezer Magic
Always store dip in refrigerator. This will keep for a couple days in covered and stored chilled.
This cold taco dip can be made a day in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For best results, wait to add avocado or lettuce until just before serving. Freezing isn’t recommended because the dairy layers separate when thawed.
