Instant Pot Chicken and Gravy is the dream worthy comfort food recipe you will come back for over and over again. Made with 5 simple ingredients, your Instant Pot or pressure cooker will do all the work making this a perfect weeknight dinner meal the family will love. Serve over a bed of fluffy rice, egg noodles or delicious mashed potatoes to complete this delicious dinner recipe.

    Instant Pot Chicken and Gravy

3 Packet Chicken and Gravy as I like to call it is a One Pot Meal, meaning everything is made and cooked in 1 pot leaving you with a mouth watering meal but also only 1 pot to clean. That's the best Mom win if you ask me.

Here is a little tip, although this recipe is made for the pressure cooker, it is also easily adapted for the Crock Pot or Slow Cooker. And if you prefer extra gravy, no problem. I've got some tips to help you with that too. Make sure to add some Air Fried Carrots, or even my favorite Spinach Salad with Poppy Seed Dressing to complete the meal. Yum, it's delicious.

This dish is very simple to make and is perfect for any beginner cook! So what are waiting for? Scroll down to find out how easy it really is to prepare this delicious meal.

Another winning recipe is my 3 Packet Pot Roast recipe which is fantastic! It's also an easy one pot meal perfect for Sunday Dinner. And don’t forget to try out my Bruschetta Chicken with Deglaze Balsamic Vinegar and Chicken Parmesan for more drool-worthy dinners.

Shopping List for Instant Pot Chicken and Gravy

    • Chicken Breast ~ Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast making sure to trim off any excess fat
    • Chicken Gravy Packet ~ McCormick Chicken Gravy is a favorite option
    • Italian Dressing Packet Mix ~ For a less bold flavor use ½ packet
    • Ranch Dressing Packet Mix
    • Chicken Broth ~ Swansons Chicken Broth without Sodium is preferred=

This 3 packet chicken only requires simple ingredients, but the flavor is going to leave you begging for more! For more added gravy add an additional cup of liquid and thicken with a cornstarch slurry after the pressure cooking process.

How to make Chicken and Gravy

Step 1: Place boneless skinless chicken breasts into the Instant Pot / pressure cooker and season with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Add 1 cup Low Sodium Chicken Broth or water into the pot.  The broth is needed to create steam to pressure Instant Pot

Step 3: In a separate bowl combine Chicken Gravy Packet with Italian Dressing and Ranch Dressing Packet.  Sprinkle mixture over chicken breasts

    • Mix seasoning packets in bowl
    • Seasonings on chicken in Instant Pot

Step 4: Pressure Cook Chicken Breasts for 18 minutes.  Allow a 20 minute Natural Pressure Release (NPR) before opening the lid.

Step 5:  Remove chicken breasts and use forks shred chicken.  Chicken will be soft and tender and will easily fall apart and shred.

Step 6: Set Instant Pot to Saute.  In a small bowl mix 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch and 2 Tablespoons water to make a slurry.  Add slurry to Instant Pot and whisk into gravy to thicken (optional)

Serve over Rice, Noodles, or Mashed Potatoes.  Also delicious when served on a toasted hoagie roll.

    Directions Using Chicken Tenders

Follow the above directions and measurements except adjust pressure cooking time to 6 minutes when cooking chicken tenders and allow a 6 minute Natural Pressure Release (NPR)

    How to make more gravy?

It's easy to add additional gravy in this recipe. Add an extra cup of water or broth when cooking. Gravy can be thickened with a Cornstarch Slurry. Or you can add an additional packet of chicken gravy to the recipe which is fantastic too.

    Orange Fluff Story

    How to shred chicken?

I find that chicken breasts will easily fall apart after being pressure cooked. Using forks to shred chicken or pull it apart works best. You can also use a hand mixer. Place chicken in a bowl and on a low speed use mixer to shred chicken.

Can I substitute for thighs or tenders?

Although I prefer using chicken breasts because they easily shred when pressure cooked, you may substitute chicken tenders or even chicken thighs in this recipe. See recipe card below for adjusted cooking times.

I did not see the cooking time if using chicken thighs instead of breasts.

Hi Bonny! The recipe card with all the ingredient measurements and directions is located at the bottom of the post. Instruction 4 says to pressure cook chicken breasts for 18 minutes with a 20 minute natural pressure release. Hope this helps! Always follow the directions in the recipe card.

"Devour"ing this right now. Very good and I will be making this again! I have to admit that I didn't follow your directions for doubling the gravy. I wish I did. I doubled all the ingredients. I promise next time I will make it as written for double gravy. The timing is perfect!

So easy and delicious. I didn't have the Italian seasoning but I didn't miss it. Added some Better Than Bullion Chicken when cooking . Served over rice

Wish I could share a picture

We love extra gravy and this can be done easily by adding additional broth.
