Let’s get specific, Better Than Sex Cake recipe is moist and delicious.  I super fun cake to make and share.  It’s ooey gooey flavors really make this dessert recipe extra special.  Some prefer to call this Better than Whatever Cake and I’m okay with that, especially when there are kids around.

Better than Sex Poke Cake

Better Than Sex Cake is made with a chocolate cake mix.  I do love Devils Food Cake but a good Chocolate Cake Mix is perfect.  Make sure to follow the directions on the box with Eggs, Oil and Water.  I also prefer to use either a hand mixer or a large stand mixer when mixing the cake mix too.  It’s lighter which works well in this recipe.

Why Devils Food Cake?

I’ll be very candid with you.  I prefer Betty Crocker Cake Mixes.  I like the way they bake, the texture is always spot on.  Devils Food Cake is a more dense cake.  When making a Poke Cake you want a cake that is sturdy and will hold up with all the yummy ingredients you put on it.  That is why I choose Devils Food Cake Mix for this recipe.

Chocolate Cake and Hand Mixer

Mix up the cake according to the package and bake.  Once out of the oven use the handle of a wooden spoon and poke holes into the cake.  This is a fun step that the kids love to help with.  The pan will be hot so make sure no one gets burned.

Poke Holes in Baked Chocolate Cake

Pour 1 can of Sweetened Condensed Milk directly on the cake.  Notice how I drizzle the sweetened condensed milk into every hole?  I want to make sure it gets throughout the entire cake.  Then I use a rubber spatula to spread all over.

Sweetened Condensed Milk on Cake

The cake is still warm so the condensed milk will absorb quickly.  Now let the cake cool.  You can even place it in the refrigerator if you wish.  But the cake must be cool before you proceed further.

Spread a small tub of Cool-Whip on top of cake and top with Heath Bar Bits and Mini Chocolate Chips.  It’s that simple.

Cool Whip On Chocolate Cake

We love to drizzle Caramel Sauce on each piece before serving for an extra WOW Factor and it doesn’t disappoint.

Better than Sex Poke Cake

Each Bit will curb your appetite and you will be licking your lips for more.  As a family, we have loved making this fun and easy recipe for years.  The kids don’t care what it’s called, they just know they want some and they always come back with a clean plate.

Family Memories are Priceless

I adore recipes that gather my family and create fun times.  This is one of those recipes where everyone is happy to come together, enjoy some dessert and play some games.  The laughter that comes is truly priceless.  For me, that is my Joy.

The “Better Than” type recipes are abundant but I want to share with you one of my other very favorites.  Better than Sex Chex Mix is Ah-Ma-ZING!  The mini Peanut Butter Cups truly add to this recipe and I love the crunch of the Chex Mix.  With so many textures and flavors, it’s a favorite for many reasons.

Better Than Whatever Poke Cake

What is Poke Cake?

A Poke Cake is a generic term for a cake that you poke holes into so you can drizzle a sauce, cream, or even Jell-O. It’s a fun and easy dessert that can be made with endless flavor combinations.

Did you know back in the 1940’s the first Poke Cake Recipe was printed on a can of Nestle’s Sweetened Condensed Milk.  It was a favorite from the beginning.

Poke Cake Recipes

So many flavor combinations come to mind when I think of a Poke Cake. Traditionally Better Than Sex Cake is a Poke Cake Recipe. But we also love to make these combinations too.

  • Lemon Cake with Raspberry Syrup
  • Chocolate Cake with German Chocolate Topping
  • FunFetti Poke Cake
  • Lemon with Cream Cheese
  • Strawberry Cheese Cake Poke Cake

How to Store Poke Cake

The best way to store a Poke Cake is to cover with Plastic Wrap and keep in the refrigerator.  You can also Freeze Poke Cake.  Make sure it’s covered and sealed and freeze for up to 3 months.
