Can you imagine how cute a Sunflower Baby Shower Cake would be? Truly adorable if you ask me. And you could easily make a Diaper Cake with my Step by Step directions too for the new little one.
I’ve made this cake many times for large family gatherings and typically when I have to travel to an event. Let me explain why I choose this dessert to travel with and why I ALWAYS get a HUGE WOW reaction when I arrive.

I’m all about the presentation and choosing a recipe or dish that people will love and eat all of. I don’t want to take anything back home with me. Traveling isn’t always easy with kids in the car so use my little cheating tips to WOW your family too!
I arrive about an hour before the event so I have time to run to the local grocery store bakery or superstore. I purchase the following items
Sunflower Cake Shopping List

- 2 boxes of Hostess Twinkies
- Chocolate frosted single layer round cake (6 or 8 in round)
- Bag of Hershey’s Kisses
- container of Chocolate Frosting
From home I bring 1 large round serving tray and 1-quart size Zip-loc bag
After quickly running to the store I head to the location of the event so I can throw this masterpiece Sunflower Cake together.
Place the single-layer round cake in the center of your large round serving tray. Unwrap Hostess Twinkies and place them around the cake, forming pedals. Unwrap Hershey Kisses and place them on top of the chocolate cake to look like the center of a Sunflower.
Spoon chocolate frosting into a zip-loc bag and snip the corner of the bag. This will be easy to pipe a squiggle line of frosting onto each Twinkie as shown.

In a few quick minutes, your Sunflower Cake is complete. It’s a dessert to be proud of and all the kids will want a bite. For under $20 you have made a dessert to feed 20+ people. I call that magic!
Your Pot Luck Dessert will be a favorite and everyone will want to take a photo of it.
You can of course always bake your own cake and frost it. Just follow the directions of the boxed cake mix by adding the ingredients listed. Usually water, oil, and eggs and baking for the specific time for round cake pans.
This Pot Luck Favorite Dessert will feed 20+ people. Call that a win at your next Family Gathering and the kids will love it.
